NASA SunRISE SmallSats Complete Testing Ahead of Cape Canaveral Launch

Engineers at Utah State University’s Space Dynamics Laboratory report all six SunRISE SmallSats passed vibration, thermal, and electromagnetic tests in preparation for their launch from Cape Canaveral later this year. The toaster-oven-sized satellites will fly in formation above geosynchronous orbit, forming a single large radio telescope to track solar radio bursts and map the Sun’s magnetic field. Scientists say the mission will help protect astronauts and satellites from dangerous solar energetic particles while advancing understanding of space weather. Launch is planned aboard a United Launch Alliance rocket as a rideshare with the U.S. Space Force.
