Sea Ray Bridge on Merritt Island Faces Brief Reopening Delay

The $9.7 million Sea Ray Bridge on Merritt Island, closed since Hurricane Irma in 2017, is still facing a slight delay in reopening due to remaining construction equipment that must be cleared before the bridge can safely handle vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Construction began in July 2024, and the new bridge features two travel lanes, wide shoulders, and a protected shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. Officials say the bridge will reopen no earlier than this weekend once final safety checks are complete.
