The St. Johns River Water Management District is lowering water levels and monitoring rainfall in preparation for potential hurricanes. Engineers are using levees, floodgates and real-time data from sensors to manage water flow and prevent flooding across Central Florida. They now say the river is already two feet below winter levels to give it room for storm runoff.
