Two people are behind bars here in Brevard County on felony aggravated animal cruelty charges after investigators say a dog was starved to the brink of death. Sheriff’s agents arrested Heather Ballantyne and James Preston after a family member reported the condition of a dog that had been adopted from the county. Authorities say the dog was denied food and medical care and kept confined in a crate. That dog has been rescued and treated at an animal hospital and is now recovering.
