In Palm Bay, a swear-in ceremony was held Tuesday for eight newly hired members of the Palm Bay Police Department. It’s a long and tough process to join the department. The candidates are required to complete nearly 800 hours of police academy training before they can join the police department, and once hired, the officers must then complete 3 weeks of orientation and then another 14 weeks in a field training program before they can serve as an officer on their own.
