Volusia Principal Resigns After Being Scammed

In Volusia County, the longtime principal of a charter school came under fire Tuesday night, after the school learned that she wrote a $100,000 check… out of the school’s bank account… to an internet scammer who was posing as Elon Musk. Jan McGee resigned last night following that revelation. She had been the principal of Burns Science and Technology in Oak Hill since it opened in 2011. McGee claims she was scammed after spending months talking to the person in hopes of getting Musk to invest millions of dollars in the school in exchange for a $100,000 upfront investment. Luckily, the school’s business manager found out about it and canceled the check before it was cashed.
