Governor Signs Tort Reform Bill

Last Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a major tort reform law. The new law creates uniform standards to help jury members in civil trials figure out damages and medical claims in cases of death or great personal injury. Besides standardizing evidence for medical claims, it regulates so-called “bad faith” actions in an attempt to quickly resolve disputes, and it reduces the statute of limitations on general negligence from four to two years. It also eliminates payments to plaintiffs if they are found to be 51% at fault.
