Citizens Property Insurance Corporation’s Board of Governors met Wednesday, and recommended an average increase of 14.2% for all personal lines policies – homeowners, condominium units, dwellings, renters and mobile homes. If the rate hike is approved, it would be the largest increase ever for Citizens, but people who have Citizens insurance pay 44% less on average, than those with private insurance. Homeowner policy rates would increase by an average of 13.9%. Condo owners would see an average 14.6% increase. But private insurers are going up 40% on average.
