A rabies alert was issued by the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County on Thursday after a raccoon tested positive. The alert was issued for the 32927 area of Cocoa and it will remain in effect for 60 days. According to the health department, the center of the rabies alert is at Everglades Street in Cocoa and includes the area of Kings Highway to the north; U.S. 1 to the east; Grissom Parkway to the west; and Fay Boulevard to the south. People are urged to avoid contact with all wildlife and to make sure rabies vaccinations are up to date for all pets and livestock. Anyone or any pets bitten or scratched by other animals should seek immediate medical attention.
