Jeffrey Epstein is believed to have been the world’s most prolific sexual predator. Now, the public and is more than 500 estimate victims could be on the verge of learning more about how Epstein was able to get away with molesting, raping, and trafficking underage girls for more than 13 years, after a judge in Palm Beach County has received grand jury materials dating back to his original charges in 2006. The world may soon find out what led to the grand jury secrecy back then, that resulted in Epstein being charged with only one count of solicitation of prostitution. It all comes as a result of a decision last month by a panel of the 4th District Court of Appeal that so far, has gotten little attention in the national news. That decision ruled that the trial judge was entitled to release the grand jury material that will show how strong or even how much of a case prosecutors presented. But because the victims’ names will be redacted, releasing the full report could take some time. While it is rare that grand jury material be made public, the judge ruled that continued blanket secrecy over the proceedings that led to the original Epstein indictment is no longer warranted in order to promote public understanding of the criminal justice system and public confidence in the fair administration of justice.
