Move Over Law Adding Disabled Vehicles On January 1, 2024

Among the new laws that take effect with the new year is an expansion of Florida’s so-called ‘Move Over’ law which as of January 1st, will no include disabled vehicles. Under the current law, drivers in Florida have to move over a lane if they see law enforcement or emergency vehicles on the side of the road. If that’s impossible because of traffic, drivers must slow down to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit or they can be ticketed. Starting January 1, the requirement to slow down or move over will also apply to broken down or disabled vehicles.
