Robinson became the first Black person elected to the office of Lt. Gov. of North Carolina in the 2020 election. His advocacy for gun rights gained national attention, and he has remained a loyal supporter of former President Donald Trump. The Democratic candidate running for the position of North Carolina governor was Josh Stein. Stein and Robinson will now face off to replace current term-limited Democratic Governor Roy Cooper.
