In what is being viewed as a rather bizarre case, a man is suing the Brevard County government, alleging a violation of his free speech rights after being removed from a county meeting back in May. Justin Harvey claims the Space Shuttle Challenger astronauts are still alive. He argues that his removal from the meeting was an act of “viewpoint discrimination” and a breach of the county’s policy on respecting minority opinions. The lawsuit seeks nominal damages for attorney’s fees and a declaration that the county’s actions were unlawful. County officials so far, have declined to comment, citing pending litigation, however they have stated that public comments are limited to matters under the commission’s control.
