Brevard School Security Ramping Up

Starting in October, Brevard Public Schools will enhance campus security by installing metal detectors at all high schools in the district. Melbourne High School will be the first to receive the OpenGate systems on October 8 and 9. It comes about after that recent school shooting in Georgia and aims to increase safety. The metal detectors will scan students quickly and non-intrusively as they enter, with additional screenings if alarms are triggered. The measure is part of a broader security effort that includes expanding the guardian program, allowing select staff to carry firearms.
