The Brevard Zoo is preparing for its first giraffe birth since 2020 after announcing a 12-year-old giraffe is pregnant. The expected birth this summer is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, aimed at maintaining a healthy, genetically diverse population. Calves are typically about six feet tall and weigh roughly 150 pounds at birth.
