An off-duty Edgewater Police Officer was shot and killed Monday afternoon at a Circle K in Ormond-by-the-Sea. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood called it “an assassination,” saying surveillance footage shows the clerk ambushed Officer David Jewell as he waited to pay for a hot dog. The suspect is in custody, and authorities are investigating the motive.
