Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey slammed the criminal justice system Thursday, calling it a “hug-a-thug” approach after deputies arrested Mitchell George, a 41 year old repeat offender with more than 100 prior arrests. Ivey says habitual offenders like George are repeatedly released, putting both citizens and law enforcement at risk. The sheriff vowed his deputies will keep locking violent criminals up despite what he calls weak bonds and lenient sentences.
