Torrential Rains Flood Northern Brevard County

Sunday night’s slow-moving thunderstorms dumped between 12 and 19 inches of rain on northern Brevard County in just six hours. A strong cold front crossing the state triggered the downpour, made worse by already saturated ground. Cocoa, Titusville, and Indialantic were hit hardest, with flash flooding swamping homes and stranding vehicles on roads and in parking lots. Several trees came down across the area, and about 2,500 customers lost power at the height of the storms. Cleanup and damage assessments are underway.
