Manatees Gain Added Protection

State wildlife officials have approved a seasonal no-entry zone in one part of Brevard County where manatees gather as they also now are preparing for what likely will be the second winter feeding in a row of lettuce to manatees as an effort to prevent more of them from starving to death. The no-entry zone will put further restrictions on entroy by boats and people to an area around Florida Power & Light’s Cape Canaveral Energy Center, where many manatees traditionally gather during the winter because of the warm water.
