A new medical school will open next year here in Brevard County. Florida Tech will host Brevard County’s first four-year medical school, which is now slated to open in July 2024, as an effort to address a growing shortage of physicians in Florida. The first class of about 100 will graduate in May 2028. It comes as an expansion of an existing partnership between Florida Tech, which is based in Melbourne, and Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is based in New Mexico that kicked off back in 2020, when the two established a medical student partnership with Steward Health Care.
