Pelicans Released After Injuries But Investigation Widens

Two pelicans found here in Brevard County with mysteriously broken wings have been given a new chance at life after recovering from their injuries. The pelicans, along with four others nursed back to health, were released near Patrick Space Force Base by staff and volunteers from the Florida Wildlife Hospital. The injuries, including compound fractures, raised concerns as 27 pelicans suffered similar fates. Suspecting foul play, wildlife experts are investigating the incidents now said to be spanning across beaches from here in Brevard County all the way up to North Carolina. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are actively looking into what they call the troubling pattern of injuries.
