In Melbourne, a tense standoff ended tragically as police shot and killed a suspect involved in an “active shooter” incident at the Pentagon Garden Apartments near Babcock Street and Strawbridge Avenue. 47-year-old William J Banks Jr. began firing at officers after they responded to a 911 call he made himself. Despite efforts by law enforcement to resolve the situation peacefully, the confrontation escalated, leading to the suspect being fatally shot. No officers were injured. The whole thing is now under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
