Big Lots Expands List Of Store Closures

Another large/nationwide retail chain is feeling the effects of the worsening economy. Big Lots has announced plans to close up to 315 stores nationwide, significantly more than the previously estimated 150. The retailer’s first-quarter sales for 2024 dropped over 10%, reflecting ongoing economic challenges and high inflation affecting consumer purchasing power. As of now, 293 locations are marked for closure, with California set to face the most impact, losing 75 of its 109 stores. Big Lots has not yet released a full list of the expected closures, and there is no word on whether the store on Babcock Street in Melbourne will be affected.
