FPL Accusing Melbourne Family Of Meter Tampering

A Melbourne family is facing a staggering $12,000 electric bill after Florida Power and Light discovered tampering with their meter. Michelle White says a worker with Florida Power and Light showed up last Wednesday and turned off the power to their home, and left a notice taped to their door, citing illegal tampering that had caused the meter to under-register usage. FPL claims that the bill covers underpaid electricity since 2019. White disputes the charges and now is using a generator for basic needs. FPL issued a statement saying that customers are responsible for their meters and may be back-billed for unauthorized usage. So far, no one has been charged with any crime.
