Downtown Melbourne has enhanced its security with the installation of 12 new cameras, which have in fact, been operational since August 27. The $140,000 project aims to deter crime and boost safety in the area. Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey cited the success of similar programs in nearby cities as a model for this initiative. The new cameras, which follow a year-long planning process and a successful test phase, are expected to improve security and potentially attract more visitors to the downtown area.
