Storm Blows Sailboat Into Power Lines

A sailboat became tangled in overhead power lines near the Eau Gallie Causeway during Sunday’s severe storms. The owner remained aboard as heavy winds and waves battered the vessel before firefighters helped another person to safety. No injuries were reported, and the boat surprisingly, sustained little damage.

Palm Bay Approves 2,360-Home Development

Palm Bay has approved Everlands West, a 2,360-home development planned on nearly 1,200 acres. More than 310 acres of wetlands will be preserved as part of the project. Construction is expected to continue in phases through 2036.

Longtime Palm Bay Publix Closes for Redevelopment

The Publix at Palm Bay Center on Babcock Street has closed after nearly 50 years in business. The aging store will be demolished and replaced with a new Publix as part of a larger redevelopment project. Customers are being directed to nearby stores in Palm Bay, West Melbourne and Melbourne.
