Cape Canaveral Weighs Property Tax Increase

Cape Canaveral officials are considering a property tax increase to close a projected four-million-dollar budget gap and rebuild depleted emergency reserves. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the city’s former financial leadership after council members were not notified that reserves had fallen below required levels.

Palm Bay Father Charged With Child Neglect

43 year old Nathan Forczyk of Palm Bay is being held without bond after police say he failed to get medical treatment for a child bitten by the family dog. An investigator reportedly found the child with dried blood and two deep cuts on the forehead.

SpaceX Launch to Mark Florida’s 50th Mission of 2026

SpaceX is scheduled to launch three AST SpaceMobile satellites from Cape Canaveral Wednesday morning. The launch window runs early tomorrow morning from 3:42 to 5:18. The Falcon 9 mission will mark Florida’s 50th orbital launch this year. The booster will attempt its 30th landing on a drone ship in the Atlantic.

Brevard Drivers Warned as Students Return to School

Brevard County students return to class Monday, August 10, and drivers are being warned to stop for school buses. More than 17,000 citations were issued during the first year of the county’s bus-camera program. Motorists must stop when red lights flash and the stop arm is extended.

NASA Presses Ahead With Artemis III Mission

NASA is moving forward with plans to launch Artemis III from Kennedy Space Center in 2027. The mission would test Blue Origin and SpaceX lunar landers in Earth orbit before a planned moon landing in 2028. The rocket, Orion spacecraft and crew training are now in progress.

Port St John Stabbing Suspect Held Without Bond

A man accused of fleeing an Interstate 95 hit-and-run, crashing into a Port St John yard and stabbing two residents is being held without bond. Deputies say Jadarius West entered the home, demanded keys and attacked the victims before jumping from a window and being arrested.
