A Chinese tourist faces federal charges for allegedly flying a drone through restricted airspace near Kennedy Space Center. Investigators say the man recorded video of NASA facilities during the 12-minute flight. He claimed that he did not know drones were prohibited.

Prosecutors Drop Inmate Escape Charge

Prosecutors have dropped an escape charge against 36 year old Hartley Elliot Sanchez, who left a jail barbecue serving line and had sex with a woman in a portable toilet. Officials determined Sanchez never left jail property. He was released August 31 after completing his original sentence.

Sebastian Bus Driver Charged With Child Abuse

A Sebastian school bus driver faces a child abuse charge after investigators say onboard video showed her grabbing a student’s hand and threatening to break his finger. 65 year old Tracy Marie Alpy was released on $5,000 bail. The school district has started the termination process.

Couple Recovering After Lightning Strike

Aaron and Clare Walenga are expected to fully recover after lightning struck them on the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden. Four bystanders rushed to help, performing CPR on Clare before first responders arrived. The couple thanked those who helped save their lives.

Brevard Veterans Welcomed Home From Honor Flight

Hundreds of supporters welcomed Brevard County veterans home Saturday night following Space Coast Honor Flight Mission 89 to Washington. The crowd remained at Melbourne Orlando International Airport despite a flight delay and bad weather. The Florida Tech lacrosse team and local band Hot Pink kept the celebration going until the veterans arrived.

Viera Residents Rally to Save Pete the Alligator

Viera residents are trying to stop the removal of Pete, a roughly six-foot alligator living in a neighborhood retention pond. A petition has collected more than 320 signatures, but a state-contracted trapper has a 45-day permit to capture Pete. A second alligator named Buddy is not covered by the permit.
