Brevard County Delays Gas Tax Proposal

Brevard County commissioners have delayed a proposed local gas tax increase while facing a $2.2 billion infrastructure backlog. The additional money would support roads, bridges, drainage and other projects. Commissioners say the issue could eventually go before voters instead of being decided by the board.

Cape Canaveral Considers Property Tax Increase

Cape Canaveral leaders are considering a property tax increase to help close a budget shortfall. Other possibilities include selling city property or allowing private management of some recreation programs. Residents are divided between raising taxes and cutting spending. City officials say no decisions have been made.

Florida Awards Bonuses to New Law Enforcement Officers

Florida has awarded more than $10 million in bonuses to 1,506 newly hired law enforcement officers. Each recruit receives a one-time $5,000 payment after taxes. Since the program began in 2022, nearly 12,500 officers have received bonuses totaling more than $83 million.

Haunted Jail Trail Returning to Cocoa

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Haunted Jail Trail returns to Cocoa next month. The attraction will run October 15 through 17 and October 23 and 24 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 860 Camp Road. Admission is $20 per person, with tickets available through Eventbrite.
