A Volusia County surfer has died following a tragic accident at Daytona Beach Shores. 49-year-old Jorge Alvarado sustained a severe head injury after crashing into the Sunglow Pier while surfing last Friday. Alvarado was trapped underwater and tangled around a pier piling before being rescued by bystanders. Despite being on life support, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Alvarado was remembered as a vibrant figure in the local surf community, known for his spirited personality and deep love for surfing. A GoFundMe has been set up to support his family.
